This project is located in a very ancient house in Salàs de Pallars, a small town close to the Catalan Pyrenees. The building, was originally one house, but was divided in three in the early 90’s.

The assignment was to divide (again) the first floor of the building, a 200m2 apartment. This floor has a remarkable high ceiling of 3,50m with ancient and beautiful wooden beams. Also, we found interior elements of great historic value, like solid ancient wood doors or trims. The design approach of the project was to respect and recover these particular elements, as well as, using traditional and respectful new materials.

We decide to keep the layout as much as possible, so we didn’t have to demolish any ancient elements. It was a “surgery” design. The floors are made with solid and polished concrete, the wooden elements are all stripping and tainted to match the ancient wood. The new kitchen, in black and white, respects the color scheme and integrates the new fire place. The new bathroom, is behind an original glass doors and the vanity was made with and ancient console.

The result is a welcoming new apartment that keeps the magic of the historical house.
