This is our proposal for the urban planning contest Europan-12. The project proposes the implementation of a new Technology Campus in an old sewing machines factory, in Kaiserslautern, Germany. This is a huge residual industrial area of 20ha, limited by strong boundaries. The aim of the project is to connect the city to this new campus, which has to be a new neighborhood in terms of scale.
The spine of the project is the avenue that connects the factory to the city center in the south side. The design consists of introducing high towers facing the avenue and opening a new square at the east corner of the factory. The interior planning is designed to connect the factory with its surrounding areas, like a sewing grid, allowing a natural growing of the city.
The Campus uses are varied. The project proposes a mixed-use city blocks, including dwelling, laboratories, offices and retail.
